1000v Port-Channels

Another topic of it's own on the blueprint

1000v Network Monitoring

A topic of it's own on the blueprint so I'm assuming this is worth a few points

Nexus 1000v Port Profiles and VLANs

I thought these topics were worth a dedicated post.

Nexus 1000v Virtualization

The blueprint has a section called 'Manage Data Center Virtualization with Nexus1000v'.  This post will cover this section of the blueprint.

Nexus 1000v Installation

Cisco has provided quite a few different methods to install the Nexus 1000v distributed switch.  I think the two best are deploying from a OVF and the other is using the Java installer.  The OVF method could be considered an old school way of deploying.  The Java method does much of the routine setup for you.

Nexus 1000v Notes

Below are some of my notes on the 1000v.

Nexus 1000v Orphaned Switch Removal

If you have removed a Nexus 1000v VSM from vCenter without first removing it as a DVS, then you have an orphaned 1000v. The 1000v installation process creates a new folder with objects in the networking inventory of vCenter.  You cannot remove this folder directly.  You must install a new VSM and register it with the name of the orphaned 1000v (unless you want to try modifying the database directly which isn't recommended).
